The "Pop Up" Buck Rogers (1935)
First Edition of The "Pop-Up" Buck Rogers,
With Three Beautiful and Fully Intact Pop-Ups
Calkins, Dick and Nowlan, Phil. Buck Rogers 25th Century Featuring Buddy and Allura in "Strange Adventures of the Spider Ship". Chicago, Illinois: Pleasure Books, 1935.
Quarto. Hardcover. 1st Edition.
First edition of this pop-up scifi classic based on the comic and radio favorite, Buck Rogers, with three fully functional pop-up illustrations. One of the quintessential Blue Ribbon pop-ups, Buck Rogers appeared in 1935 and assumed a permanent place in the pop-up book canon with its complex paper-engineering and appealing mid-century cartoonish artwork. Slight creasing to dragon claw and hand holding ray gun in third illustration (as often; the engineering of the parts invites them to interlock and crease), a few faint smudges to interior, a few faint spots of soiling and light wear to extremities of boards. An attractive copy, most desirable with fully intact pop-ups.
