The Blue Ribbon "Puss In Boots"

(Pop-Ups and Moveables). Puss in Boots. The Illustrated Pop-Up Edition. New York: Blue Ribbon, 1934.

Octavo. Hardcover. 1st Edition.

First edition of one of the earliest pop-up books, the Blue Ribbon Puss in Boots, with three double-page pop-up illustrations. Illustrated by C. Carey Cloud and Harold B. Lentz, Puss in Boots published by Blue Ribbon Press is an early American example of the pop-up book. It features several in-text black-and-white illustration and three pop-up double-page illustrations in full color including the king in his throne as Puss in Boots presents him with a dead rabbit; Puss in Boots holding a drumstick and attacking the ogre-turned-mouse; and Puss in Boots approaching the King to save his master from drowning. While Puss in Boots is among the less familiar fairy tales, this version offers an exciting and slightly bloodthirsty take that is likely to become a classic in your home. Contemporary owner Xmas inscription in margin. All pop-ups lovely and fine with just slightest separation to fold of carriage pop-up with functionality unaffected, text generally fine, only minor rubbing to original boards. Handsome.
