Kriegie (1960)

"This Wire Was Known As the Warning Wire;
Any Prisoner Crossing It Was Shot Without Warning"

Simmons, Kenneth W. Kriegie. New York: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1960.

Octavo. Hardcover. 1st Edition.

First edition of this American airman's memoirs about surviving a German POW camp. Captured after bailing out over Germany, Texas airman Kenneth Simmons kept a detailed diary on toilet paper during his time in a POW camp. While he lost that original diary during demobilization, Simmons was able to reconstruct life in Stalag Luft III for this memoir. Of particular note is Simmons' painstaking reconstruction of the camp and camp life, as well as insight into the type of mindset that allowed one to survive in the POW camp. Book fine, dust jacket near-fine with only light wear to extremities.
