Drummond, Ruth. A Woman Faces the War. New York: H.C. Kinsey, 1940.

Octavo. Hardcover. 1st Edition.

First American edition of this collection of letters written by an English housewife from the beginning of World War II to 1940. At the beginning of the war, when information about the British Homefront was in short supply abroad, Ruth Drummond published this series of poignant and informative letters about the situation at home. As a housewife and mother, Drummond was touched by all aspects of the war and the letters she wrote (hoping for publication in Ladies' Home Journal) faithfully record the trials, the tragedies, and even the moments of levity. Drummond's letters offer information about everything from rationing to fear of gas attacks to the care of refugee children.    Book near-fine, with only mild toning to extremities. Rare dust jacket very good or better, with faint rubbing and a bit of chipping to extremities just affecting first bio on rear panel.
