First edition of this linenette abridgement of A Child's Garden of Verses, with striking illustrations by mid-century children's illustrator George Trimmer. Originally published in 1885, A Child's Garden of Verses remains one of Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson's most beloved works. Frequently adapted and illustrated, the book originally comprised 64 unillustrated poems. This abridgment features 14 of those poems arranged from wake-up time to bedtime, embellished with imaginative illustrations by George Trimmer. Trimmer was a Merrill house illustrator most active during the 1940s, but he also had a second career as an accomplished painter. Only a few small areas of faint soiling to interior and covers, a couple tiny tears to edges, generally bright and lovely. Extremely good condition.
