Diamond Crystal Salt Co. and General Foods. 500 War-Time Saving Secrets. New York: Diamond Crystal Salt Co. and General Foods, 1943.
Slim octavo. Paper Wrappers.
Early edition of this booklet featuring 500 secrets for conserving clothes, food, and home goods during World War II. 500 War-Time Saving Secrets is a lovely example of a particular kind of patriotic booklet published by corporations (in this case, Diamond Salt) to help women in the home. This booklet offers easy DIY tips on everything from fridge maintenance to clothing repair to fixing a broken lamp. With tradesmen in short supply and many men abroad, women often used books such as this to deal with all aspects of home maintenance, including ones they had not dealt with before like plumbing or painting. Based on the book 500 Ways to Save in Your Home from Chain Store Publishing (1942). Interior generally quite clean, only minor rubbing and toning to wrappers. A near-fine copy.
